Welcome to my fourth monthly review report on Tropical U.P! As I have indicated in my first monthly review, I will post a monthly overview of all the things that I have done the past month. In this post, you can learn about my successes and struggles and how far I am from realizing certain goals.
You might ask why I want to share these details with you in the first place? First and foremost, they are here because they help me with keeping track of my progress. Once I put it online, there is no denying to the things that I should have done, but also sharing the things that went well for me.
The second reason I decided to put these reviews online is that I thought it would be interesting for you to follow changes that are ongoing in my life. As might know, I was laid off earlier and since then a lot has happened. I hope that these reviews encourage and motivate you to chase your dreams.
October was an interesting month, and I learned a lot of valuable lessons, so let’s get started!
In September, I wrote a lot of new posts to Tropical U.P and it made me feel a lot more comfortable about the content that was available on my website. Because I felt more comfortable with the number of posts available I decided to focus more on the quality and distribution than cover as much ground and topics as possible.
Last month I shared that I had almost finished the redesign of Tropical U.P and in October I finished the last aspects that I wanted to change. Now the entire system behind my website is much more automated in professional and allows to easier push things in the future. One aspect that I feel particularly good about is my new email service provider (ESP) and the benefits that I am already receiving from this. For more information check out this post on why I switched from MailChimp to GetResponse.
For November, I want to work more ahead in my editorial calendar and make sure that my posts are also more automated. I have experimented with this already in October and so far the results seem good. I want future posts to be lined up and posted on automated times so that visitors always know when they can expect a new post. One of the big names in blogging that I follow always has great content but it bothers me a lot that content is never posted consistently on the site, I can image other people feel the same way. I don’t want people visiting Tropical U.P to have similar experiences.
HOW TO CREATE A WORDPRESS SITE
This is something that I am pretty excited about. I have been working very hard to create the ultimate guide to creating a WordPress site in Genesis. Genesis is a versatile framework but for a novice it can be hard to get the result you want, this is the reason that I decided to write and record a tutorial that covers all the steps that are required to build a website just like Tropical U.P!
At the moment, I am in the final stage of creating the tutorial video which will be published shortly on YouTube and on Tropical U.P. My written tutorial is available as an eBook exclusive for subscribers to Tropical U.P, sign up for my email list and you should receive the tutorial immediately!
Be sure to keep on eye out for the rest of the tutorial!
Visitor numbers in October were similar to September. This is a pity as I wanted to maintain the growth I had the months prior. A reason for the stagnation of unique visitors could be because of less promotion on social media and my focus to several things outside Tropical U.P. There is a lesson here and I should definitely make sure that numbers keep growing over time.
For November, I am expecting bigger things as I expect that the tutorial I mentioned above will push more traffic to my website. Currently, I am also experimenting with promoting my content outside normal social media and I am already positive indicators that this works. When I have more information about this I will dedicate a post to my best practices and results!
Although unique visitors did not increase I did however noticed results in terms of my ranking and my Moz score. I am making it a personal goal to keep these numbers going up every month and I am finding alternative ways to achieve this.
At this moment, I am not (yet) able to disclose my financial numbers. Income that I generate with Tropical U.P is still limited, on the other hand, this site also does not cost a lot of money to maintain.
In order to grow my site and to earn open other revenue streams, I have also created services to assist other people with their online business. I am now offering support for web development, consultation, audits and other aspects that you might struggle with. For more information see this page.
Now that Tropical U.P is fairly set up, and I want to shift some of my focus to other websites that I am developing and maintaining. Currently, I have several domains that I am managing, and I am planning to update these and start different ways to implement monetization for these websites.
More information on these websites, my strategy and results will follow in future review posts.
PERSONAL LESSONS LEARNED
To close this monthly review, I want to take some time to reflect on the things I have learned in October. I have said it many times, but your focus is very important in business. For other reasons I was not able to fully focus on Tropical U.P last month, I feel bad about this. I notice that things are moving in the right direction, but I aim for bigger things.
For November, I want to focus more on the things that are important to develop my business and the things that could benefit you in the long run. Teresa is currently also setting up her own online business and I am helping her to develop a web shop. It is nice to broaden my experience and I am looking forward being involved with this in the future.
Thanks for reading my third monthly review. As you may have noticed this monthly review is way more detailed compared to previous monthly reviews. I hope you enjoyed reading this review, and I hope it inspires you to find your passion and to build an awesome business. Thanks for your support and I am looking forward sharing the next review!
